HISTORY
In 2001, four teachers who had left traditional education were having dinner. This group met regularly to discuss work, clients and trends in education and technology. They all missed working at the grassroots level and decided it was time to give back to their community. Shortly after this dinner, they met a teacher from St. Mary’s Home and volunteered their services. This is how iSisters was born. Within a year, iSisters had charitable status and had formed its first board of directors.
The chronology of our program partnership is as follows:
2001 St. Mary’s Home
2002 Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa
2003 Tungasuvvingat Inuit
2005 Youville Centre
2006 Immigrant Women Services Ottawa
2007 Cornerstone
Each program partnership lasts, on average, for three years. During the third year we focus on training the staff and prepare
to exit leaving a sustainable learning program to be run by the
partner. Learn more about our partnership process.
