1) What is the Internet?
A Web of Computers
The Internet is a world-wide network of computers and servers.
Through telephone wire or television cable, your computer can connect to the Net (short form for the Internet). As a web of computers that are linked together around the world, it is also called the World Wide Web.
In this section you will review a few animated clips about what the internet is and how it works.
Watch for the following terms:
- ISP - Internet Service Provider
- Modem
- Web Server
- URL
- Domain Name
- Web Browser
