iSISTERS TECHNOLOGY MENTORING
APPOINTS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Ottawa, May 10, 2010—iSisters Technology Mentoring today announced the appointment of Jolynn Sommervill to the role of Executive Director.
In her capacity of Executive Director, Ms. Sommervill will oversee all operations and planning and programming, including the supervision of all staff, as well as provide strategic advice to the Board in the area of partner development, and also be a key player in furthering iSisters’ goals in expanding its capacity and reach within and beyond Ottawa.
Ms. Sommervill comes to iSisters after five years as the Director of WIAM (World Inter-Action Mondiale), a non-profit organization that promotes global citizenship through arts, education and technology programs. She has extensive experience in program and fund development and a special interest in forging strong links with community groups through new technologies. Prior to her work with WIAM, Jolynn worked across Canada for over 15 years in the film and television production industry.
“I know I speak for the executive team in extending a warm welcome to Jolynn,” said Patricia den Boer, Chair of the Board of Directors for iSisters. “This is a growing organization with an ambitious plan to build its capacity in Ottawa and other communities for women at risk who need support with technology skills to build better lives. Jolynn’s knowledge of the not-for-profit sector, her strategic focus and her previous experience in generating a clear line of sight to developing partnerships—both at the funding and program level—will be vital to our future success.”
Technology plays such a vital role in our lives today, being able to help the women who are disadvantaged by life circumstances succeed and feel good about their contribution means so much, said Ms. Sommervill. “In the months to come, I am very much looking forward to being able to deliver our services to more women in need and expanding the reach of our organization.”
