New funding support arrived from TELUS, The Community Foundation of Ottawa, The City of Ottawa and Accenture's Skills to Succeed program for a new project to be run in partnership with Operation Come Home, The Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa and Tewegan House.

Classes commenced at the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO) this month.  Seventeen eager new students are registered to take our four-week course.

Funding renewal from The Leacross Foundation

The Leacross Foundation has offered its support and confidence to iSisters for a second year in a row. Thank-you to Roslyn Bern and the Leacross Foundation for sharing in our vision.

Tim Birch-Jones, project manager of iTeachnology, the iSisters elearning project was awarded with a United Way Community Builder award at our Annual General Meeting on Nov 2nd for his outstanding contribution to the iSisters community.

In April, iSisters was proud to accept the Conference Board of Canada's Global Best Award for Building Learning Communities.

Global Best Awards 2010

Carleton University Centre for Research and Education on Women and Work is pleased to announce the availability of new bursaries for the Management Development Program for Women (MDPW) for the 2010-11 academic year.  This year, there will be 6 Leacross Foundation / R. Bern full bursaries valued at $7,500 each available to women working in the Technology sector, Trades, the Not-for-Profit sector, and Small Business Owners.

Elation Centre sponsored our Volunteer Appreciation event on April 9th. iSisters volunteers were invited to attend an afternoon of Core Yoga followed by a smoothie demo by Sylvie Gouin, co-founder of Elation Yoga.

Sisters Annaul General Meeting

November 2nd, 2010

Our AGM was held at the United Way Ottawa.  We were pleased to have over 30 people in attendance to enjoy the premiere of a video of our learners produced by Graham Law as well as an update by our elearning team on the next phase of our iteachnology project, Alison Telford from the Cornerstone Women's Centre was our guest speaker and iSisters volunteer, Tim Birch-Jones was surprised with a United Way Community Builder award. Thank-you to all who made the event a success.

iSisters Annaul General Meeting

Was held on September 28, 2009 at Algonquin College. Karen Soloman was our gracious MC, Bibi Patel from the Community Foundation of Ottawa was our guest speaker and iSisters Zahide Yilbas was surprised with a United Way Community Builder award. Thank you to all who made the event a success. Our 2008/2009 annual report was released at the event.

 

Begin2Believe Volleyball Tournament

On Saturday August 22 at Mooney's Bay iSisters was the charity of choice for the Begin2Believe volleyball tournament. It was a beautiful summer Saturday where 16 teams played six games through the tournament. iSisters did not make the playoffs - shocking - but we had a blast. Thank you to our new friends at B2B!
