Melissa Peneycad is a professional management consultant and sustainability strategist who has directed, led, and managed numerous cutting-edge initiatives for clients in the private, public, and non-profit sectors in Canada, the United States, the UK, and Tanzania. Her expertise is diverse and most notable in community development, environmental marketing, and information technology. Her experience also includes working for clients in these industries: conservation, consumer loyalty marketing, eco-labeling, eco-tourism, energy, finance, health care, janitorial and sanitation services, paper, packaging, refrigeration and air conditioning, and transportation.
Currently a senior consultant and manager of market research services at TerraChoice Environmental Marketing, Melissa works with environmental leaders across a wide range of industries to help them convert genuine environmental leadership into winning strategy, communications, and positioning.
Prior to TerraChoice, Melissa worked for CARE Canada in Zanzibar, Tanzania where she conducted a comprehensive marketing and business assessment for the Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, the island’s most important ecological site and ecotourism destination, to ensure its long-term viability as a tourist site and its continued contribution to community treasuries and local biodiversity.
Melissa holds a Master in Environmental Studies degree in Sustainable Business from York University in Toronto, Ontario, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Business and the Environment. She also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Strategy and Marketing from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. In addition, Melissa has successfully completed international exchange programs in Switzerland and Germany.
Melissa co-wrote a chapter for an award winning book, The Business of Sustainable Development in Africa, which explored the role of social capital in women’s micro-enterprise development in Zanzibar, Tanzania, based on extensive primary research into women-led handicraft cooperatives. She is also an accomplished speaker on the subjects of micro-enterprise development, green purchasing, eco-labeling, and environmental marketing strategies.
A passionate supporter of iSisters Technology Mentoring, Melissa sits on the Board as a Director.
Melissa is a certified rescue SCUBA diver, travels internationally, and plays volleyball. Originally from Pickering, she now lives and works in Ottawa.
