Zahide Yilbas came to Canada in September 2005 with her two daughters for them to have a better future.
She loves teaching, and has over 20 years of experience in a broad range of teaching-related positions at various academic and non-academic institutions in different countries. She has worked with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and educational levels. Zahide is an Electronic Engineer with a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from Erciyes University (Turkey), and a Ph.D. in Engineering on Artificial Intelligence from Dublin City University (Ireland).
Zahide has always actively volunteered in her community, and she currently volunteers as a Junior Undiscovered Math Prodigies (JUMP) tutor at the Viscount Alexander Public School since 2005. She also took care of the iSisters drop-in sessions at Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO) as a volunteer, where students practise their computer skills outside of the regular classes. She later became a volunteer teacher for the iSisters level 1 and 2 courses and taught at various centres in Ottawa. In 2009, she received the United Way Community Builder Award for her volunteer contribution with iSisters.
Zahide worked as the iSisters Program Manager from November 2009 until July 2011.
